Craft Keizan

Kazufumi Wada

Traditional techniques are not only preserved but also continually evolving.

Since the founding of the kiln by the first generation, Wada Keijirō, over ninety years ago, he has been producing tableware, crafts, and tea utensils using traditional techniques, all under the favorable terroir of Mino. The charm lies in how it authentically expresses the rustic texture of the clay and its natural richness. This unconventional technique takes shape through the fusion of traditional Japanese methods passed down through generations and new ideas. Handcrafted items are known for their excellent usability. Why not experience how a sense of attachment grows over the years with continued use?

Harahachibu sake cup

It is better to live a life in moderation.
A cup that overflows from the bottom to help avoid excess intake.

There is a proverb in Japan that is 'Eating to only 80% full keeps the doctors away. This is
a phrase that is similar to "light suppers make long life," expressing a wish for good health.
It is a cup with a mechanism that all the sake inside spills out from a hole when poured
beyond a certain amount.

The mechanism of the trick.

You can pour sake into it just like a regular cup up to
about 80% full, but if you go beyond that, the siphon
effect will cause all the sake to flow out from the
hole at the bottom. Each product is handmade, so
there may be slight differences in dimensions, color,
and feel. Please understand it.

tea. The lid of the dobin can also be used as a sake cup. You can enjoy a drink together in a calm atmosphere. When putting away, there is an

Evolution of tradition and meticulous craftsmanship

"It is not preserving customs, techniques, and culture exactly as they were, but rather passing them down in a way that adapts to the changing times."-

He creates and introduces his works with this approach in mind. One of the products, known as Sen-dan, goes through the following several processes that require concentration and patience. Evenly distribute the moisture within the clay. The dough made using the air-removal process called 'neri' is left in a half- dried state. After that, place it on the wheel and precisely trim the surface with specialized tools. Understanding the these refined time and the background behind the creation of the work will make people appreciate its beauty even more.
